Moving Towards a Plastic-Free Lifestyle

17th April 2019

At Roly’s Fudge, we actively seek for ways to reduce our plastic pollution and pride ourselves on being a green business. All of our fudge is produced in your local store, with locally sourced dairy wherever possible and carefully sourced ingredients. We have also recently created a dairy-free range and we are proud to have zero food waste in every single one of our pantries.

The next step for us is to really focus on ruling out plastic. We are slowly transitioning into using a technology called Natureflex that will mean that we can replace our cello bags in store and our plastic bags we use in our boxes, which is very exciting progress for us.

We want to encourage our customers to become more conscious about their plastic consumption and believe that the small changes make a world of difference. If we can do it, you can too!

Here are some steps that you can take to move towards a plastic-free lifestyle:

  1. Think about why you want to make the change.

Nowadays it is easy to access information about the harmful effects of plastic on the environment. Education is key! There are so many blogs, books and articles that are available to read, but an equal number of documentaries that can let you know about plastic pollution in just an episode. Learning about plastic’s environmental impact can be a huge motivation for people to continue to make the switch to plastic-free options and make better purchasing decisions.

  1. Get help from social media and other green communities.

There’s a whole other world online – use it! If social media is your thing, following accounts that are also committed to being conscious about their plastic waste can be encouraging, providing inspiration when you most need it. Instagram accounts that are committed to reducing their plastic pollution that we really love include @zerowastehome and @plasticfreedom_.

If you aren’t an avid social media user, don’t fear: there are many communities and support groups online that are equally as helpful in providing information about plastic-free alternatives. Internet aside, having a good group of people around you that share similar concerns towards the environment can help you stay motivated and give you more ways to cut out plastic. Try and get your family on board and make your choices into a lifestyle!

  1. It’s the little things.

When shopping, bring a reusable bag, box  or jar with you. When visiting your local Roly’s Fudge Pantry, we would love you to bring your own containers that you can fill with fudge! Some stores will even give you a small discount.

In the home, we try and reduce our use of plastic too. Using beeswax wraps instead of clingfilm, or tupperware instead of ziploc bags are an easy way to incorporate reusable alternatives. It will also save you money in the long-term, meaning you can spend more on fudge!!

Plastic straws are another small thing that we can easily substitute. If you do still want to use a straw, there are stainless steel straws that do the exact same job and won’t harm the environment, it really is that easy.

Refill your water bottles instead of buying new ones everytime you are out and about. Learn more about how Roly’s Fudge can help you make this switch here

Like we’ve said, changing to plastic-free alternatives is not too tricky and these small things are a great first step to being a green consumer.

  1. Celebrate every success.

If you are attempting to do your bit for the environment, be proud of yourself! It can sometimes be difficult to actively reduce your plastic consumption and changing habits can be hard. Celebrate when you have made the change and maybe even reward yourself with some fudge. As a company, we feel so proud to be doing our part to protect our environment and it is such a rewarding lifestyle to adopt. Your enthusiasm could lead others to make similar changes and that will really make the difference.

We are so enthusiastic about becoming plastic-free. We are actively making the change in our stores, but we want to encourage you to also make similar choices. We hope these tips will help you in your own journey towards a more eco-friendly lifestyle. We’ve attached some links to products we love, but brand alternatives are also available.

Share this blog with your friends and encourage them to also do their part. We hope to see you (and your reusable box) in a Roly’s Fudge soon!
